PRAYER HYMN....................#2167

More Like You”

UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Jesus prayed that we might be one.
One in spirit
One in mission
In union and communion with each other and with you.

Today, God, we confess fumblings and failures

in accomplishing unity,

as we set aside yet another day to remind ourselves of the task.

On this World Communion Sunday,

give us eyes to recognize your reflection in the eyes

of Christians everywhere.
Give us a mind to accept and celebrate our differences.
Give us a heart big enough to love your children everywhere.
We thank you for setting a table with space enough for us all! Amen.

SACRAMENT OF HOLY COMMUNION

Invitation • Thanksgiving • Words of Institution

A Great Thanksgiving for World Communion Sunday

Invitation

Christ invites us all to this Holy Feast.

As we gather this morning

we remember our sisters and brothers

from above and below the equator,

from the North and from Down Under,

from every time zone around the globe.

As today’s sunlight inches across land and sea

Christians gather to celebrate their place in God’s family.

We are a global church with a global task to bring love and joy.

Through this sacrament of nurture,

we receive power to be faithful in love to serve

the people of the world.

All are invited and all are welcome.

Come, for the meal is ready!

Thanksgiving

O God, who loves and guides us,

we come to the table joining Christians all over the globe

this World Communion Sunday in the knowledge that we have been forgiven.

We join Christians of many colors, nationalities and varieties of worship, knowing that you have given us a Savior because you have loved us.

Many kinds of bread are on the tables around the world this day. But you are our only God; Christ is our Savior. These breads, broken as Christ’s body was broken, are the symbol of your love and forgiveness and unity.

We come, O God, to drink from this cup, knowing that gaining Christ Jesus our Lord surpasses anything we can ever earn or possess. Christ’s resurrection makes this cup possible and available for all. Amen.

Words of Institution

Among friends, gathered round a table,

Jesus took bread, broke it and said,

this is my body, it is broken for you.”

And later, he took the cup and said,

This is the new relationship with God,

made possible because of my death,

Take this – all of you – to remember me.”

Blessing of the Bread and Cup

Pastor:..........God, may this bread connect us more closely with you and with our neighbors near and far.

All:..........Bless this bread, we pray.

Pastor:..........May this fruit of the vine remind us of the interconnectedness of people around the world.

All:..........Bless this cup, we pray.

Pastor: ..........May this simple meal bring us into union with you, your people and your world, united in the One Body of Christ. This we pray in Jesus’s name who taught us to pray, Our Father . . .

The Lord’s Prayer....................#895

Sharing the Bread and the Cup

Bread:..........The bread of life, shared with you

Cup:..........The cup of the New Covenant, shared with you.

Holy Communion is opened to all - all are invited and welcomed.

We will be serving by intinction this morning. You will receive

a piece of bread which can be dipped into the cup and received.

The Communion rail is opened for prayer.

Please come by the center aisle and return by the side aisle.

Prayer of Thanks for Christ’s Presence (in unison)
O God, through this bread and this cup, you have made us one with you and with each other. May the unity we find at this table be a gift that we carry out into your suffering, divided world. Help us to find strength in knowing that you, the God of peace, will always be with us. Amen.

*CLOSING HYMN....................#2026

Halle, Halle, Halleluja” Sing Twice

*COMMISSION AND BLESSING
