Easter Sunday ✝ The Resurrection of our Lord

April 12, 2009 at Eleven O’clock in the Morning

On the first day of the week, at early dawn,

the women came to the tomb,

taking the spices that they had prepared.

They found the stone rolled away from the tomb . . .”

Prepared for mourning, they were called to joy instead.

May their witness give you hope.

*EASTER AFFIRMATION!

One: This is the day:

All: when tears are wiped away;
shattered hearts are mended;
fears are replaced with joy.

One: This is the day the Lord:

All: rolls away the stone of fear;
throws off death's clothes;
goes ahead of us into God's future.

One: This is the day the Lord has made:

All: death has no fear for us;
sin has lost it's power over us;
God opens the tombs of our hearts
to fill us with life.

One: This is the day - Easter Day! Christ is Risen! Alleluia!

THE PEOPLE OF GOD PRAYING

PRAYER HYMN . . . #364

Because He Lives” v. 1

UNISON PRAYER

Very early on that first day you caught chaos unawares,
Astounding God: planting grace in a garden,
setting love loose on creation, flinging joy into the air.

Very early on that first day Jesus, Sun of Justice:
you staggered sin, throwing its weight off the world;
you confounded death, leaving it alone in the grave;
you opened the gates of the kingdom,
so all could follow you into life.

Very early on this first day of the week,
while we were washing sleep from our eyes
and trying to make sense of our lives, you sang glad songs to us,
Scarred Spirit: rolling away fears from our hearts
so we can see the Risen Lord. Alleluia! Amen!

Your help is needed for our Church Wide Spring Cleanup Saturday, April 25 from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 or 2:00 p.m.. Put your energy to work on behalf of beautifying our church. Many hands are needed to rake and sweep. You may volunteer to help for the entire session or just a part of the time. Whatever time and energy you could donate for this project would be greatly appreciated. Our Methodist Men will be providing a hot dog lunch for all our volunteers.

IT'S BEEN A ROUGH WINTER!
Record snowfall, boiler failure, broken pipes, increased utility bills. Put this along with the weather causing decreased attendance and offerings on a few Sundays and our expenses are getting well ahead of our offering income. Take a look at the display board in the fellowship hall and grab an envelope. Prayerfully consider an extra gift to your church, of whatever amount you are able, to help offset the deficit we are experiencing. Help get your church out from under the mounting pile of unexpected & increasing expenses.

Grow Group is a sexual abuse support group for anyone who has experienced sexual abuse. Men and women of all ages are invited. The meetings are confidential and free, except for a one time cost for the manual, and are open to anyone in our community. The trained facilitators have all experienced sexual abuse and are eager to help others as they begin their healing journey. It is never too late to begin. If you have experienced abuse, do not let shame hold you back. The abuse was not your fault. God wants his people free. The Spring Grow Group session begins on April 16 and meets for twelve weeks each Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m. in the Wesley Room. Please share this information. To register, call Shirley Petersen.

The Susannah Wesley Circle will meet on Thursday, April 16 at 10:00 a.m. in the Corbin Room. Bring your world thank offering boxes to this meeting. See you there.

The Friendship Chain will not be meeting in the month of April.
