PRAYER HYMN....................#526

What a Friend We Have In Jesus”

UNISON PRAYER

You create us for profound love, O God. You make us spiritually hungry, to search for you within ourselves and in those whose lives touch ours. Yet we seek to numb our feelings and feed our hunger with junk. We turn on our televisions to tune out the world around us. We shop for what we think will satisfy our longing for beauty or goodness. We do any number of mindless tasks without noticing or searching for your presence in our lives. Forgive us, O God. Touch us once again in our deep places, the wells of hunger that only you can fill. Fashion us anew to be your vibrant people, alive for you in all that we say, feel and do. Amen.

Our Annual Church Conference will be held on Sunday, October 4 immediately following the 11:00 worship service. This is the annual business meeting of the congregation. Reports are received and election of church leadership takes place. All are invited and encouraged to attend.

TODAY we begin a church wide worship emphasis called Enough: Discovering Joy Through Simplicity and Generosity. Over a period of five weeks, we will look at some of the financial challenges facing us as a nation and examine our own spending, saving, and giving habits. In addition to exploring biblical principles of financial management, we will learn ways to assess our financial situation and develop a financial plan that will allow us to experience the true joy that comes through simplicity and generosity. At the end of the emphasis, we will have the opportunity to make personal commitments of giving for the coming year. We will consecrate our commitments on October 25. Visit our website, www.umccadillac.org, for more information.

Dave Ramsey’s Generation Change series for youth, grades 6th -12th is being held on the four consecutive Sundays in October in the Corbin Room for 1:00-3:00 p.m.. Each meeting includes lunch, one hour of seminar class time (including Bible support) and a short period of fun and activity. Registration is needed for ordering T-shirts and study materials to be given out. There are two iPods to be given out in a drawing for those who attend the classes. Please contact the church office (775-5362) to register.

Thursday, October 1, is Game Night for Wesley Fellowship. Couples and singles are always welcome. Bring your favorite game along with a dish to pass for the 6:00 p.m. potluck. Jerry & Joyce Seward are your hosts this month.

Beginning Thursday, October 1, Mercy Hospice is providing a 6-8 week grief recovery group that will focus on several topics related to grieving, such as What Normal Grief Looks Like, How Loss Affects People in Different Ways, Healing Takes Time, to name a few. These classes will be held at the Mercy Hospice office, 7948 Mackinaw Trail, across from McGuire’s Resort and run from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. on the following Thursdays: October 1, 8, 15 and November 5, 12, 19 and December 3 and 10. On Sunday mornings during worship, we have a variety of options for our children. At the 8:30 worship, staffed child care is available for infants through 3 & 4 year olds. During the 11:00 worship, there is a staffed nursery for young children through 3 & 4 year olds. Following the Time With the Children, there is Sermontime - a time of learning for those in kindergarten through second grade held in our 1st & 2nd grade classroom. Children 3 and 4 years old may go to the nursery during Sermontime.

Our fellow church members and friends, Clark and Helen Sill, will be leaving Cadillac and moving to Stuart, Florida in early October. You are invited to share in a time of food and good-byes over lunch TODAY beginning at 12:45 p.m. at the Cadillac Grill (Eldorado). Lunch is “Dutch-treat.” Come on along and join the fun!
