Prelude

A Time of Informal Hymn Singing

Bringing in the Light of Christ

Welcome, Parish Notes & October Clip Board Ministry

*Call to Worship

One:..........We find it easy to say, “Yes, we will follow Christ.”

All:..........But sometimes discipleship makes uncomfortable demands on us.

One:..........Yet, in all of this, Christ calls us continually to follow.

All:..........He is present with us at all times.

One:..........Let us place our trust always in Jesus’ guidance.

All:..........Let us open our hearts to Christ’s will and his ways. Amen.

*Opening Hymn....................#159

Lift High the Cross”

*Sharing the Love and Peace of Christ

If you have a prayer joy or concern to be shared during the Prayer

of the People, please hand it to an usher during the Prayer Hymn.

Prayer Hymn....................#2152

Change My Heart, O God”

Call to Reconciliation
Our sins are not to be hidden from God. Rather, we bring them into the Light and lay them on the Table, trusting in the One who shaped us for goodness and will transform our brokenness into wholeness. Let us pray.

Unison Prayer of Confession
Searching God, we are so attached to our possessions, we have trouble sharing them. We are so connected to our pleasures that we cannot feel the pain of those around us. We are so stuck on ourselves, we cannot sense our souls slipping away into the shadows.

Most merciful God: loosen us from the grip of the world, so we may feel your healing touch. Release us from our sin, so your Spirit might bind us to you. Reshape us, redeem us, renew us, so we may take up our crosses and follow our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Silence is kept

Assurance of Pardon
One:..........The God who calls us is the God who created us;

the God who formed us is the God who forgives us.

This is the Good News - we are God's new creation.

In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.

All:..........Thanks be to God. Amen.

*Song of Dedication

Take My Gifts and Let Me Love You”

by Shirley Murray....................Tune~Holy Manna

1.

Take my gifts and let me love you,
God who first of all loved me,
Gave me light and food and shelter,
Gave me life and set me free.
Now, because your love has touched me,
I have love to give away;
Now the bread of love is rising,
Loaves of love to multiply!

2.
Take the fruit that I have gathered
From the tree your Spirit sowed,
Harvest of your own compassion,
Juice that makes the wine of God;
Spiced with humor, laced with laughter-
Flavor of the Jesus life,
Tang of risk and new adventure,
Taste and zest beyond belief.

3.
Take whatever I can offer-
Gifts that I have yet to find,
Skills that I am slow to sharpen,
Talents of the hand and mind,
Things made beautiful for others
In the place where I must be:
Take my gifts and let me love you,
God who first of all loved me.

*Prayer of Dedication

Eternal God, we offer these gifts and the service of our lives praying that they are acceptable to you. May they be evidence of our desire to follow Jesus, and our turning away from all that hinders our discipleship. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Having heard your Word, O God, encourage us

to reflect and act.

Pastor:..........Having sensed the truth, help us to be faithful.

All:..........Having encountered Jesus, lead us to faithful discipleship.
