Meet Our 2010 Jamaican Mission Team
*Call to Celebration One:..........We each have many gifts to offer in service to God. All:..........Some will be teachers; others preachers; some will be capable leaders, others will be skillful workers; some will be those who have visions of all possibilities; others will find ways to make those visions a reality; some will develop ministries of peace and justice; others will seek to change unjust systems. One:..........Each person here has been blessed by God. All:..........Lord, help us to use those blessings to help others. Amen.

Unison Prayer Lord, in this season of Epiphany, as we think about the revealing of Jesus, we pray that you would open our eyes to see him more clearly. Help us understand fully the glories of Jesus’ life and his love for us. We pray, too, that you would open our hearts to understand that you have made us Christ’s body, that you have brought us together as your church to represent Jesus to those around us. Help us know that we need one another. Illumine our church, Lord. Bring us to dependence on you and dependence on one another. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
Prayer of the People The Lord’s Prayer ....................#895

and generous God, we have much to be thankful for - our faith, our
freedom to worship you, our families and friends. Help us never to
take these for granted. Most of all, help us never to take for

us together as his body. We pray that you will receive and bless

*Closing Hymn....................Tune: Nettleton Sing a New Church
Rich in our diversity, Gathered in the name of Jesus, Richer still in unity.

Robed in holiness and light, Male and female in God’s image, Male and female, God’s delight: Refrain.
Trust the Spirit strong within. Dare to dream the vision promised, Sprung from seed of what has been. Refrain.

Methodist
Men will be
gathering for their regular January meeting on Thursday, January
28 at 6:00 p.m. in the Corbin room. Following our usual "gourmet"
potluck dinner, a business meeting and devotions, we will have the
opportunity to view a DVD presentation on a very timely topic;
"Global Warming" - The Science and the Solutions. Hosts
are David and Jonathan (who were friends). Bring a friend, a dish
to pass and join us. The West Michigan Conference has had a long and deep relationship with the people of the Methodist Church of Haiti. Mission Teams that routinely travel to Haiti and have focused water projects, the Haiti Hot Lunch Program, Grace Children’s Hospital, helping build multiple schools & church buildings, centering around relationships and shared hope through Jesus Christ. The flood of images coming out of the devastating earthquake evokes such a deep emotional response from us that words are inadequate at this time. The magnitude of the devastation has altered the landscape of how we can respond for the immediate moment & near future. Presently, persons are asked not to travel to Haiti or ship anything to the site. But, we can help in the following ways: pray & pray more; give sacrificially through UMCOR & prepare Health Kits for quick distribution. We will receive an offering for the next few Sundays & invite you to prepare a kit(s). Instructions for Health Kits for Haiti are located on the table in the narthex. Please follow them precisely. Thanks for your caring!!
If you were expecting to receive offering envelopes for 2010, and haven’t, please contact our Financial Secretary, Dan Kinney or the church office at 775-5362.

Those serving in the military in our nation are away from home and loved ones. Mail is a connection that they look forward to daily - a word of care & encouragement. Addresses are available by the quilt.
On Sunday mornings during worship, we have a variety of options for our children. At the 8:30 worship, staffed child care is available for infants through 3 & 4 year olds. During the 11:00 worship, there is a staffed nursery for young children through 3 & 4 year olds. Following the Time With the Children, there is Sermontime - a time of learning for those in kindergarten through second grade held in our 1st & 2nd grade classroom. Children 3 and 4 years old may go to the nursery during Sermontime. |
