Bringing in the Light of Christ

Welcome and Parish Notes

*Opening Hymn #278

Hosanna, Loud Hosanna”

*A Palm Sunday Reflection: Twenty Centuries past

One:..........Twenty centuries past,

what city has not heard of your coming?

From Beijing to Berlin, from Jerusalem to Johannesburg,

from New York to New Delhi

surely the word has spread that you have come in peace,

not violence

to enrich, transform our lives and bring us to shalom?

All:..........Blessed is the one who comes in the name of God.

Hosanna in the highest.

One:..........Twenty centuries past, what city has not heard of your church?

From Catholic, Orthodox, Uniting or Anglican,

Evangelical, Progressive or Pentecostal

surely the message of acceptance, healing, confidence

in your royal advent, has been passed on through

faithful living?

All: ..........Blessed is the one who comes in the name of God.

Hosanna in the highest.

One:..........Twenty centuries past, what city has not rejected you?

From penthouse to tenement,

from factory to leisure center,

from state park to community auditorium,

surely the news is that this life is for taking,

not giving, and what stands in the way of this lifestyle

must now be removed?

All: ..........Blessed is the one who comes in the name of God.

Hosanna in the highest.

One:..........Twenty centuries past, what city does the Christ seek

to enter?

From conifer forests to the Goode addition,

from lake houses to the high rises,

surely the sign of the church free from pride,

united in deed,

must be the welcome the Christ longs for

as he enters our city?

All:..........Blessed is the one who comes in the name of God.

Hosanna in the highest.

Prayer Hymn....................#488

Jesus, Remember Me” Sing Three Times

Unison Prayer

Humble Jesus, who rides into our cities and draws near to our lives. We, too, rise to greet you, to shout our hosannas and to feel new life stir within us. But deep in the distance, in some far corner of our being, we fear your arrival. For you gently offer us a choice, and to choose you means letting go of jealousies and resentments, our private wars against others and our timid acceptance of ourselves. Like the people of Jerusalem, we discover you are more than we first thought. Beyond loud hosannas, you ask our obedience and our worship. And we are learning, piece by piece, to turn that over to you. This day, this week, move us into the deeper levels of ourselves. Let us feel again your pain of that last week. Let us touch our own wounds, trusting you. Amen.

PRAYER HYMN....................#488

Jesus, Remember Me” Sing Three Times

UNISON PRAYER.
Holy God,
Architect of our grace:
from your house
we praise you.
Your love is never taken from us;
your goodness is the constant in our lives.
We worship you.

Jesus Christ,
Sorrow of our salvation:
you dared to listen to God
instead of the cheers
of the crowd
and the jeers
of your enemies.
We walk with you.

Holy Spirit,
Glory of God:
you give us light
so we might see
the One who comes;
you open our ears,
so we might hear
the whispers of hope;
you sustain the weary,
so we might journey
through this Holy Week.
We welcome you. Amen.

Pastor Ed offers a non-anxious presence to patients, families & staff alike in hospital rooms, the surgical waiting room and the emergency room.
