Pastor’s Pen
Sometimes we get caught up in the mind
set that if we do it all our self, we know that it will get done and
done right, or done the way we think it should be done. But in
doing things ourselves, we exclude others from the opportunity to
experience and learn new things. Letting others be included in
planning and executing brings a variety of ideas. It take more
energy, patience and time to include others in planning and carrying
out events. But more people brings more growth in many forms.
Before Amway and Ebay, there was Jesus. Luke 10 shows the expansion of God’s kingdom: “after this, the Lord appointed seventy others and sent them on ahead of him in pairs to every town and place where he himself intended to go.” (vs. 1)
Wherever Jesus wanted to go himself, he had others go and spread the message for him. Jesus was setting up his kingdom founded on the idea of spiritual participation and not just spiritual consumption. Spiritual participation brings multiplication in works, a sense that everyone will be used by God that is willing to participate, and a richer experience in following Jesus. In participating, we all receive more than we have given through service and evangelism.
We can sometimes get the job done faster and easier if we do it ourselves, alone. But we deny the spiritual participation Jesus has planned.
